One of Florida's quieter beach cities, Vero Beach offers plenty to do in a relaxed environment. Known for its breathtaking beaches, Vero Beach is located about 90 minutes from West Palm Beach to the south, Orlando to the northwest and Cocoa Beach to the north. A day on the beach, at the park, at the ballpark, shopping or on the links are all popular ways to spend your time in Vero Beach.
Part of Florida's Treasure Coast, Vero's beaches offer excellent sand quality with significant surf and tidal action. Vero beach's largest public beach is referred to as South Beach, accessible at the eastern end of Causeway Boulevard. Vero also features Humiston Park and Jaycee Beach as alternate public beaches. So whether you are looking to catch some rays, hang ten, swim or just get a little beachside relaxation, Vero Beach offers you plenty of options.
Though the beaches have always been a large draw to Vero (or most anywhere in Florida for that matter), Vero Beach may best be known as the location of Dodgertown - spring training home of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team since 1948 and where the minor league Vero Beach Devil Rays play during their regular season. Holman Stadium, the ballpark within Dodgertown that hosts the teams, does not have covered dugouts - players sit on aluminum benches in the dugout area - making it one of the most fan-friendly ballparks around.
If you like your ball a little smaller, you won't be without options in Vero Beach - where you will find numerous golf course options. Some of the most exclusive private clubs can be found in Vero Beach - including Red Stick, Hawk's Nest, Vero Beach Country Club and John's Island. Even if you aren't a member of a private club, there are numerous public offerings in the area, including the Golf Digest 4 1/2-star rated Fairwinds Golf Club in Fort Pierce.
If you are more interested in carrying around a shopping bag than a golf bag - you won't want to miss the Outlets at Vero Beach. Ann Taylor, Dooney & Bourke, and Izod are all found among the wealth of stores. The Indian River Mall is also located in the Vero Beach area, and offers plenty of air-conditioned shopping options.
If you are looking for great family-friendly options, the McKee Jungle Gardens is a great place to check out a wide range of educational and fun exhibits ranging from plant and flower shows to dinosaurs. Another interesting spot to check out is the Driftwood Inn, located in the central business district. The Inn was constructed in the early 20th century, originally built entirely of pieces of driftwood and other antiques by local eccentric explorer Waldo Sexton.
Whether you are looking to catch some rays, catch a game, or catch a sale - there's no better place to be than Vero Beach.
